ACCURATEand REWARDING
PRACTISE BALL in golf. BirdieBall is an amazing innovation that is taking
the golf world by storm. It feels and reacts just like a normal golf
ball but only flies approximately 40 metres, meaning you can now
play and practice golf just about anywhere – in the park, on the
beach, even in your back garden.
BirdieBall has been reviewed in over 40 publications and in TV shows
from the Golf Channel, ESPN, and Fox Sports and continues to receive
acclaim from golf coaches and teachers around the world. In fact, it
was voted ‘Best New Product’ by the golf pro’s at the USPGA Expo
show!
BirdieBall for Schools
Golf can be a difficult game to learn, particularly for kids. In a
lot of sports, modified equipment is used to help kids learn in a
positive and enjoyable way. Unfortunately this often is not the case
with golf; the first experience a kid usually has is with a
full-size, heavy adult club in a attempt to hit a
golf ball right
off the ground, and we all know that hitting that
golf ball is
still hard after years of trying, so what hope has the kid got?
It is crucial that young players use appropriate equipment and today
thankfully there are plenty of junior specific clubs available. But
having correctly fitted clubs still doesn't address the difficulty
of hitting a normal golf ball, getting it airborne, and receiving
meaningful and enjoyable feedback from the experience.
Enter the BirdieBall ...
With a slightly higher centre of gravity, the BirdieBall is easier
to hit into the air than a normal golf ball so is very rewarding for beginning golfers.
When used in conjunction with the StrikePad, the effect is even more
pronounced and the junior just starting out will have a very
enjoyable and meaningful introduction to the game of golf and the
golf swing.
The other great benefit of BirdieBall is its limited flight of about
35-40 metres. This means that school golf is a real possibility and
junior golf clinics can be conducted in local parks. BirdieBall is
safe and enjoyable way to learn about and improve at golf.
BirdieBall in the UK
By Stuart Disney, PGA Advanced Professional
I’ve spent years trying to get friends and family into golf. Some
have been interested and taken up the game but most have not due to
the fact that it’s just so difficult to get the hang of.
I’d say it takes most players at least a year to be able to hit the
ball properly, or at least enough to be able to hack their way round
a half decent course. I know you can do it quicker but very few
people seem to actually achieve that due to the time involved or the
sheer frustration of it.
There’s never really been anything to bridge that gap…until now.
Not so long ago I was sent a fantastic new golf product called the
Birdie Ball which is the perfect starter product for budding golfers
be they adults or children. A Birdie Ball is basically a super
strong plastic napkin ring that feels just like a golf ball when you
hit it but couldn’t look less like a golf ball if it tried.
It sounds weird I know but it all makes sense when you start hitting
them. Although the shape of them seems strange but the Birdie Ball
spins just like a real golf ball does which makes it fly just like a
real ball too.
The reverse spin around the Birdie Ball’s centre of gravity, created
with the loft of the club is similar to a golf ball. When a golf
ball fades or slices, its axis is tilted for a right-handed golfer,
from left to right. When it draws or hooks the axis is tilted the
other way. The Birdie Ball behaves similarly to this.
The non-dimpled, straight sides resist flight while the radius of
the leading edge and the aerodynamic open centre encourage flight
and lift. The oscillation between the two as it rotates from brake
to airfoil makes an excellent turbine sound which is addictive to
try and repeat.
The combination of all this provides a short flight, long hang-time
device which is just perfect for training and fun games.
Birdie Ball only travels about 40 metres even if you smash it with a
driver which means you can play it virtually anywhere and I promise
you, it’s brilliant fun. It feels like you’ve actually hit a golf
ball and it makes this hugely satisfying “Boing” turbine sound while
it heads to the target. It’s very addictive!
You can purposely get the Birdie Ball to swing left and right which
is great fun. I got the set out at a BBQ I had recently and we only
packed it away when we couldn’t see anymore! We’d have been playing
all night if we could.
The best bit is that the set comes with a flag and ‘bucket’ device
which gives everybody something to aim at and also the strike pad
which you hit your birdie balls off. The Strike pad is genius and
means you can go at it hell for leather without taking divots out of
your garden…dad will be pleased! You can even play it off a concrete
or tarmac surface which means you can play it anywhere.
If you’re a seasoned golfer, this is a great device that will allow
you to practice your control of the ball and is a great mess-around
item too.
If you’re a beginner though, it’s the perfect tool to start you off.
Birdie Ball is great fun and allows you to swing at something and
have a great chance of actually hitting it, unlike a real golf ball.
As you get better at Birdie Ball and golf, you’ll see that you can
shape the ball better and start getting it very close.
The Birdie Ball gives you immediate and accurate feedback which is
just what you need when you’re practicing, especially with your
driver and long irons.
The Birdie Super Set which retails for just £49.99 and offers
a host of different games you can play with. You can easily see how
the Birdie Ball will keep the family, students or adults entertained
for hours. It’s probably the best golf learning product I’ve ever
seen.
It is also available in the UK from my Pro Shop at Padbrook Park,
